Monitored photo eyes
An invisible beam across the opening that stops and reverses the gate.
A gate safety inspection checks that an automatic gate stops and reverses before it can trap or crush someone, as the UL 325 standard requires. A technician tests the operator’s built-in reversing, the external monitored devices such as photo eyes and safety edges in both directions, vehicle loops, warning signs and the manual release, and checks entrapment zones along the gate’s path. Eagle Automatic Gate & Door inspects gates across the Bay Area and upgrades older gates with the devices they’re missing.

Modern UL 325 gates use several layers of protection. We test each one and add what’s missing.
Some older openers can’t accept monitored safety devices. Replacing them with a current LiftMaster brings the whole gate up to date.
“We find older gates every week that look fine but wouldn’t stop for a child. A safety check is the cheapest peace of mind you can buy.”
Maybe not. Gates installed before the current UL 325 rules often rely only on the opener’s built-in reversing, with no external photo eyes or edges, or have sensors that were disconnected years ago. That doesn’t meet today’s standard and isn’t safe around kids and pets. Most older gates can be upgraded with monitored devices; some openers need replacing to accept them. UL 325 is the safety standard for automatic gate operators. It requires gates to stop and reverse on obstruction, with external monitored entrapment protection.
With nobody near the gate, place a soft object in its path and run it. It should stop and reverse. A professional inspection tests every device.
Current operators require external monitored entrapment protection, typically photo eyes and safety edges, in both directions of travel.
Usually yes, with monitored photo eyes and edges. Some older openers need replacing to accept them.
