Redwood & steel driveway gate
Double redwood gates in black steel, with a matching walk gate.
A custom wooden gate is a driveway, side or garden gate faced with real wood, usually redwood or cedar, and built to your opening. All-wood gates sag and twist as the wood moves, so Eagle builds ours on a hidden powder-coated steel frame: you get the warm look of wood with the strength to stay square and carry an automatic opener. We build them in our own shop and install, stain and repair them across the Bay Area.

Every wooden gate is built to size on a steel frame, then finished to match your home and fence.
Thanks to the steel frame, a wooden gate can carry a LiftMaster opener just like a metal one. We add battery backup, photo eyes and a keypad or intercom.
“We’ve built wooden gates for Bay Area homes for years, and the ones that last all have one thing in common: a steel frame you never see.”
An all-wood gate almost always does. Wood swells in winter rain and dries out in summer, and a wide leaf slowly racks under its own weight. That’s why we build every wooden gate on a hidden welded steel frame and fasten the boards to it. The wood can move a little without pulling the gate out of square, and the hinges carry the frame, not the boards. Call our specialist to see samples.

Redwood and Western red cedar resist rot and insects and take stain well. Near the coast or in full sun, composite boards give a wood look with almost no upkeep.
It depends on the size, wood, frame, hardware, finish and any opener. Every project starts with a free visit and a written quote, and financing is available.
Build it on a steel frame with proper hinges and a solid post. For an existing gate, we can add a steel frame, re-hang it or replace the post.
Usually every two to three years, sooner in full sun. Sealing keeps the wood from graying, checking and soaking up water.
